Boxing: Anthony Joshua vs Denis Bakhtov

Anthony Joshua continued his perfect start to his professional career by extending his record to 9-0 after crushing Denis Bakhtov to claim the WBC international heavyweight title.

Bakhtov had never been stopped inside four rounds but Joshua was smiling in the first round after tagging Bakhtov several times at the O2 Arena.

Joshua kept up his onslaught in the second round and it appeared to be a matter of time before the referee intervened.
He was doing his opponent serious damage on the ropes and Bakhtov soaked it up, only for the referee to eventually stop the fight a minute into the second round, with the durable Russian in no position to defend himself.

"I really enjoyed it," Joshua told Sky Sports after the fight. "It's time to step it up, that's where the spitefulness is coming in. I just wanted to hurt him.

"I wanted to box, I just wanted to see what he could take. He was a strong guy, I just wanted to make light work of him."
Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn added: "That was phenomenal. He gets better and better. He's going to go through absolutely everybody in the heavyweight division. This is the most special fighter I've seen in a long time."

Earlier in the night, Lee Selby stretched his unbeaten record to 27 matches after stopping Joel Brunker in the ninth round of their IBF featherweight title eliminator.

Brunker was in trouble after being hit with a big body shot, before Selby took over and unloaded at will with the referee stepping in to stop the fight.
