The Walking Dead Season 5 Strangers

It wasn’t as action-packed as last week’s premiere, but The Walking Dead season 5, episode 2 featured a couple of great surprises, one new character, and one horrible ending.

Our recap breaks down the events of The Walking Dead season 5 episode titled “Strangers.”

The episode begins with the gang walking to an unknown destination. Rick isn’t set on D.C. yet, but he better decide soon because this show is going to get boring fast. During this scene Tyreese asks Carol that they not tell everyone else about the girls (“Look at the flowers!”), Abraham hints at an announcement to the group, and Rick and Carol agree to stick together.

The next day, the hike continues – and a couple kisses are traded between Sasha and Bob – until they hear someone crying for help. It’s a new character, Father Gabriel, who’s being attacked by zombies. Nice timing, Rick and co.! The gang takes out the small herd before introducing themselves to the priest. Gabriel has no weapons but relies on the Lord in times of need (in this case it worked – God sent the prodigal son, Rick, to save him).

Rick gives him his usual opening string of questions (“How many walkers have you killed, how many people have you killed, why?”). Gabriel reveals he has some demons but isn’t about to reveal them. He brings the gang to his church, which everyone sweeps with caution.

His church, like his physical appearance, is in great condition. No damage, no dirt, no problem! They decide to camp out here for a few days in light of the craziness that just happened at Terminus. We don’t blame them. It’s one of the nicest places they’ve stayed at since Hershel’s home, and there’s wine!

Later, Rick forces Gabriel to come along for supplies, but first warns Carl that the priest is hiding something. Carl disagrees, wanting to believe that there are good people out there still.

On their supplies mission, Rick, Sasha, Bob, Michonne, and Gabriel – who worked so hard to keep his clothes clean until this moment – enter a wet and dirty situation to nab some supplies. It’s a dangerous scene but they pull it off.

When they return to the church, Carl shows Rick something he found: Someone tried to break into the church with a knife, and in this same part of the exterior possibly the same person wrote “You’ll burn for this.” Hmmm, Carl may’ve been wrong about someone like Gabriel being a good person.

That night, the gang holds a peaceful dinner. Abraham decides to salute everyone but quickly turns the conversation to making a decision about D.C. Eugene believes that safety exists in Washington D.C. – a level of safety they haven’t seen before.

Then comes the big announcement: Rick – and Judith – are in! They decide to officially go to D.C., and everyone seems happy about it. While a nice moment, Rick still can’t stop thinking that they should be suspicious of Gabriel.

Meanwhile, Carol and Daryl meet outside when suddenly the car that stole Beth drives by. They hop in their car to chase them. This scene was also interesting because it looked like Carol was considering leaving everyone before Daryl stopped her. Don’t do this to us again, Carol!

And then we cut to Bob, who’s standing outside the church and smiling. And then he starts crying (Why?). And then someone hits him over the head.

Oh crap, it’s Gareth and his guys! And they’re pissed that Terminus was torn apart. His revenge? HE CUTS BOB’S LEG OFF AND COOKS IT! This may’ve been the creepiest ending to The Walking Dead in the show’s history. Will Bob be dead soon?

During this scene while Gareth is speaking, we see Gabriel holding a photo which depicts himself and an unknown woman (who The Talking Dead described as “church lady”). Is she part of Gabriel’s dark past?

What did you think of ‘The Walking Dead’ season 5, episode 2?
So far we’re really happy with how this season is going. There are plenty of mysteries to unravel over the next few months, and Gareth has quickly become one of the worst villains the show has faced.
